Who Is Mojisola Miranda? The Female Lawmaker Who Replaced Obasa As Lagos Speaker

In a historic turn of events, Lagos State—Nigeria's bustling economic hub—has witnessed the emergence of a new Speaker of the State House of Assembly. Mojisola Miranda, a seasoned lawmaker and advocate for social equity, has succeeded Mudashiru Obasa, making her the first female Speaker in the state's history. This milestone is not only a win for gender representation but also underscores the growing importance of diverse leadership in Nigeria’s political landscape. But who is Mojisola Miranda, and what does her ascent to this role mean for Lagos and beyond?

A Trailblazing Career in Politics

Mojisola Miranda is no stranger to public service. Representing the Surulere Constituency I, she has earned a reputation as a committed and articulate legislator. With years of experience in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Miranda has chaired several committees, including those on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, where she championed initiatives aimed at empowering women and reducing socio-economic inequalities.

Her legislative portfolio reflects a deep understanding of the challenges facing her constituents and Lagosians at large. Miranda’s dedication to addressing issues like education, healthcare, and urban infrastructure has garnered widespread support and admiration from her peers and the public alike.

Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Lagos, Mojisola Miranda’s journey into politics is rooted in her passion for community development. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Lagos and later pursued advanced studies in Public Administration. Her academic foundation laid the groundwork for her analytical approach to governance and policy-making.

The Road to the Speakership

Miranda’s rise to the position of Speaker was marked by her ability to build alliances across party lines and her proven track record of effective leadership. Following the tenure of Mudashiru Obasa, whose leadership faced both praise and criticism, Miranda’s election signals a shift towards inclusive and transparent governance.

Her colleagues in the Assembly lauded her ability to foster collaboration and her vision for a more equitable Lagos. In her acceptance speech, Miranda emphasized her commitment to legislative excellence, transparency, and policies that would benefit every Lagosian, irrespective of socio-economic status.

What This Means for Lagos

Mojisola Miranda’s speakership arrives at a critical juncture for Lagos. As one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, Lagos faces challenges ranging from housing shortages and traffic congestion to unemployment and climate change. Miranda’s leadership offers a fresh perspective, with her history of advocating for marginalized communities providing a glimmer of hope for more inclusive policies.

Moreover, her appointment sets a precedent for increased female participation in governance. Miranda’s success is a beacon for young women aspiring to break barriers in Nigeria’s male-dominated political sphere.

Looking Ahead

The tenure of Mojisola Miranda as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly is one to watch. Her ability to navigate the complexities of Lagos’ political environment while addressing pressing issues will define her legacy. If her past achievements are any indication, Lagosians can look forward to a legislative agenda that prioritizes development, accountability, and equity.

As the first female Speaker of Lagos State, Miranda is not just making history—she is shaping the future. Her leadership is a reminder that diversity in governance is not merely symbolic but essential for the progress of any society.

Final Thoughts

Mojisola Miranda’s ascension as Lagos Speaker is a triumph for gender representation and a sign of progress in Nigerian politics. Her story serves as an inspiration and a call to action for more women to step into leadership roles. As Lagos embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on Miranda to deliver on her promises and lead with integrity.

Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience, vision, and the unwavering belief in a better tomorrow. Lagos has a new Speaker, and her name is Mojisola Miranda

BREAKING!! Mudashiru Obasa Impeached, Mojisola Meranda Becomes Lagos Assembly Speaker

In a historic turn of events in Lagos State politics, Mudashiru Obasa, the long-serving Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been impeached. Following his removal, Mojisola Meranda has been elected as the new Speaker, making history as the first female Speaker in the state’s legislature.

The Fall of Mudashiru Obasa

Mudashiru Obasa, a prominent figure in Lagos politics, had been at the helm of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015. Representing Agege Constituency I, Obasa’s tenure was characterized by legislative vigor but also controversies. Allegations of financial impropriety and governance lapses marred his leadership in recent years, culminating in his impeachment by a majority of the Assembly members.

This significant shift reflects growing demands for accountability and transparency in governance, signaling a new chapter for Lagos State's legislative body.

The Rise of Mojisola Meranda

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency I, was previously serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. Her election as Speaker is a watershed moment in Lagos State's history, as she becomes the first woman to hold this prestigious position. Meranda’s ascension to leadership is being celebrated as a progressive step toward gender inclusion in Nigerian politics.

Meranda is known for her dedication to community development and her strong advocacy for policies that improve the lives of Lagosians. With her at the helm, the Assembly is poised to adopt a fresh approach to governance, prioritizing transparency, inclusivity, and social equity.

The Implications for Lagos Politics

The leadership change is expected to bring a new wave of reforms to the Lagos State House of Assembly. Under Mojisola Meranda’s leadership, there is anticipation for increased legislative focus on policies that address pressing issues, including infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

Moreover, her rise to the Speaker’s seat is likely to inspire more women to participate in Nigerian politics, fostering greater diversity in governance.

A New Era for Lagos State

The impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Mojisola Meranda represent a pivotal moment for Lagos State politics. While Obasa’s departure signals the end of an era, Meranda’s leadership offers a beacon of hope for innovation and reform.

As Lagosians look forward to a new legislative agenda under Speaker Meranda, her tenure will undoubtedly be closely watched as she seeks to deliver on the promise of a more inclusive and accountable government.

The transition of power within the Lagos State House of Assembly marks a historic milestone, not just for the Assembly but for Lagos State as a whole. Mojisola Meranda’s leadership is a testament to the progress being made in breaking barriers for women in politics, while her commitment to transparency and development is a promising sign for the future of governance in Lagos.

Men Can Never Be Wise: A Tale of Heartbreak and Misplaced Trust

In today’s world of social media and viral trends, it’s common to stumble upon stories that make you laugh, shake your head, or feel a deep sense of secondhand embarrassment. One such story recently made waves online, and it’s yet another reminder that love can blind even the wisest of men.

The Viral Post

A viral post shared by a user named Sammy Joo reveals the plight of a heartbroken man who decided to share his ordeal in a direct message. The conversation—accompanied by a voice note—has sparked debates and memes across social media.

Here’s what went down: The man narrates how he went out of his way to shower his girlfriend with love and money. On her birthday, he credited her account with ₦500,000 (approximately $650), a significant gesture fueled by his earnings from cryptocurrency (specifically, USDT payments worth $3,000).

But what did he get in return? Heartbreak.

He claims that while he spent big to keep his girlfriend happy, someone else swooped in with a mere ₦25,000 (about $33) to win her over—and worse, to betray his trust. The raw emotion in his message—“Na ₦25k them use f*** my babe”—has resonated with many, eliciting both sympathy and ridicule.

What This Story Teaches Us

  1. Love Isn’t About Money
The story highlights a sad reality: material gifts, no matter how grand, cannot guarantee loyalty or love. While the man believed his financial efforts would solidify the relationship, it instead became a painful lesson in misplaced priorities.

  2. Emotional Vulnerability
The viral voice note reveals the depth of his emotional pain. Relationships built solely on material exchange or unbalanced expectations often lead to heartbreak.

  3. The Internet Never Forgets
Sharing personal struggles online, especially in such raw detail, often invites mixed reactions. While some people expressed empathy, others turned the situation into a meme, further amplifying the man’s humiliation.

Reactions Online

Social media users had a field day with this story. Comments ranged from supportive advice to outright mockery:

“Brother, next time invest in yourself, not someone else’s loyalty.”

“₦25k? Inflation affects everything except some people’s cheap loyalty.”

“Men need to start being wise. Stop throwing your money at unworthy situations.”

Final Thoughts

While it’s easy to laugh or judge, this story is a poignant reminder of the complexities of modern relationships. It’s crucial to set boundaries, prioritize emotional connection over material gestures, and, most importantly, to be cautious of whom we trust with our hearts (and wallets).

To the man in question: Let this be a lesson and a stepping stone. And to the rest of us: May we all choose our partners wisely. As for the girlfriend? The internet may not forget her actions anytime soon.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Do you think he was too generous, or did he simply fall for the wrong person?

Tinubu spent over 30% of his days in office abroad – Obi Cries

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s frequent overseas travels, stating that the President spent over 30% of his time in office, approximately 180 out of 580 days as of December 29, 2024, on more than 30 publicly recorded trips abroad.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, January 2, in Abuja, Obi urged President Tinubu to dedicate more attention to domestic issues in 2025, including spending at least 20% of the year visiting Nigeria’s 36 states.

“Mr President, out of the approximately 580 days (as of December 29, 2024) you have been in office, it is reported that you have spent over 30%, or around 180 days, on more than 30 publicly recorded overseas trips. My appeal is that you dedicate at least 20% of 2025, roughly 72 days, to visit each of Nigeria’s 36 states for two days each.''

Obi emphasized the importance of firsthand assessments of the nation’s infrastructure, suggesting that Tinubu conduct medical examinations at national hospitals and travel by road to observe the state of the highways. He shared an anecdote about taking former President Olusegun Obasanjo on a road trip in Anambra State, which led to immediate action on road repairs.

“Consider, for example, that your next medical examination be conducted at one of our National Hospitals or Regional Federal Medical Centres,” he said. “Endeavour to travel by road to observe the condition of most highways. You can take short trips, for example, from Calabar to Uyo or Benin to Warri.”

Obi also called on Tinubu to visit tertiary institutions, military formations, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps to gain deeper insight into the challenges faced by Nigerians. “Visit various IDP camps and assure these Nigerians that they will soon return to their communities. Nigeria is not a war-torn nation. The proliferation of IDP camps is a troubling sign,” he said.

He urged the President to prioritize combating corruption, ensuring transparency in public procurement, and tying future borrowing to regenerative investments. “All future borrowing must be tied to regenerative investments and visible, productive assets that benefit the nation,” Obi added.

Highlighting the importance of direct communication, Obi insisted that Nigerians need to hear from President Tinubu himself through regular updates. “A quarterly update on what he is doing to improve the situation in Nigeria is crucial,” he said.

Obi’s remarks came against the backdrop of reports that the Tinubu administration spent ₦2.3 billion on foreign trips and related expenses within six months of 2024, according to data from GovSpend. Tinubu has visited 16 countries since assuming office, including multiple trips to the UK, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.

Obi concluded by reiterating the need for selfless and exemplary leadership to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges in 2025.

Folorunsho Alakija And Her Husband, Modupe Separate After 30 Years Of Marriage

March 10, (THEWILL)- After over 30 years of marital bliss and just at the twilight of her marriage, former society matriarch turned minister of the gospel, Folorunsho Alakija has suffered a devastating marital crisis.

According to very reliable sources close to THEWILL, the mother of four who is also Nigeria’s wealthiest woman, has allegedly separated from her husband, Modupe.

The businessman allegedly, no longer spends cold nights in the arms of his wife on their matrimonial bed in their highbrow Ikoyi, Lagos home.

The couple were alleged to have been having frequent squabbles which allegedly necessitated the wealthy woman to demand utmost privacy in her home. He was forced to seek accommodation elsewhere. He allegedly lives alone within the same Ikoyi neighbourhood.

Calls and text messages to him seeking clarification went unanswered. Sources reveal that it has not all been smooth sailing for the couple these past few years and they have allegedly been forced to put up a united front because of their status in the society.

This latest development is coming barely five months after THEWILL exclusively reported that the former fashion designer and founder of FAMFA Oil Limited, an Oil and gas exploration business has allegedly been battling some health challenges particularly with her eyes. Family and friends tried as much as they could to put a lid on it just as they tried to with her current marital status. Her health challenge became more pronounced when one of her sons tied the knot early last year and very unlike the Alakijas of old, there was little or no noise about the marriage ceremony. During the wedding, the media was tactically controlled, photographers were not allowed to take pictures arbitrarily and anyone found doing so was asked to delete them. The planning of the wedding was on a need-to-know basis and guests who got the invitations were well scrutinized.

Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Premier League Player Of The Month For April

Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite a mixed time of it on the pitch for the Reds, the 37-year-old scored five goals in his four top-flight appearances for Manchester United last month, including a stunning hat-trick against Norwich City at Old Trafford which helped us to a dramatic 3-2 victory.

A consolation strike at Arsenal in a 3-1 defeat to the north Londoners followed and that was Ronaldo’s 100th Premier League goal – the Portuguese became only the fourth United player to reach a century in the division for the club, after Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney.

Goal no.101 soon followed, as Ronaldo powerfully volleyed home at the Theatre of Dreams to secure a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in our final game of April.

Cristiano ran away with our own Player of the Month prize, having netted all but one of our goals during April – Fred’s equaliser against Leicester, a game Ronaldo missed through illness, was the outlier.

It’s the second time CR7 has won the Premier League accolade since he returned to English football in the summer, as he also came out on top in September, following a headline-grabbing second debut in the 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United.

Ronaldo has now won six Premier League Player of the Month awards in total, placing him level with Steven Gerrard and behind only Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane on the all-time list.

The Portuguese star was deemed the league’s best player in November and December 2006 and was also presented with the trophy for his displays in January and March of the 2007/08 campaign.

Well done, Cristiano!

I'm Tired already, President Buhari rejects call for tenure extension, vows to step down next year

President Buhari has rejected calls from an elder statesman, Robert Clarke, to elongate his tenure by six months so he can tackle insecurity and then coordinate a peaceful election.

Clarke while speaking on Arise TV on Monday, May 9, said with the current state of security in the country, it would be difficult for a credible election to take place. He argued that President Buhari has the constitutional power to extend his tenure by six months so he can address insecurity and organize a credible election.

However, in a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said the current administration would honour the constitution and people’s right to decide.

The statement reads in part;

“In response to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria’s recent remarks, the Presidency wishes to state as follows:

Chief Robert Clarke, a very well-respected elder may be sincere in his wish for the President to extend his term by six months. We wish to categorically restate that the President will step down on May 29th, 2023, after serving two terms – as per the constitution.”

Having been the first recipient of a democratic transfer of power from an incumbent administration to an opposition candidate in Nigerian history, the President is committed to extending and entrenching democratic values across the country. He shall, in turn, hand the privilege of serving the people of Nigeria to whomever they choose through free, fair and credible elections.

However, Chief Clarke is right to say that without security, Nigeria would not likely realize its true potential as a peaceful and prosperous nation. That is why it has been at the core of this administration. The results are there for all to see. Boko Haram have been forced back from controlling whole swathes of this country.

Internally Displaced Persons are now returning to rebuild their communities. These achievements have been accomplished through the bravery and determination of the Nigerian armed forces and the fortitude of the people of our nation.

New challenges have arisen and tackled in turn – whether it’s the National Livestock Transformation Plan to alleviate herder-farmer clashes, the elimination of the leadership of ISWAP, or new efforts to combat banditry. Till the last day of the administration, the security of the citizens shall remain the administration’s paramount concern. We shall finish the job. Yet, in any case, respect for the constitution and Nigerians’ democratic rights remains the best path to securing and then maintaining peace.

Yet there are others, such as Chief Afe Babalola, that believe elections should be suspended, with the current elected government replaced by an interim unelected administration. This, he claims, is necessary to create a new constitution for the people, made possible, paradoxically, by ignoring their democratic rights. Down that path lies crisis and instability. Instead, this administration proposes something entirely simpler: honouring the constitution and people’s right to decide.”

N100m nomination form: You guys are stealing government funds for elections PDP accuses APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Buhari administration of allowing the "mass looting of public funds to corruptly create a war chest for the APC to intimidate Nigerians and muscle the 2023 general elections."

N100m nomination form: PDP accuses APC of stealing government funds for elections

In a statement released by its National Publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP alleged that the APC is diverting public funds meant for development purposes and salaries of workers to its coffers by 'orchestrating the purchase of its Presidential nomination form by all manner of persons at excessive N100 million to warehouse sleaze funds for the elections'

''Our Party has information of how public funds are being withdrawn from Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals of government and diverted to people who have no verifiable means of livelihood to purchase APC’s Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for individuals without any electoral value and who cannot even win Local Government elections.

We have intelligence on how public funds are pulled out of government Agencies in a surreptitious design perfected by an APC leader in connivance with certain individuals in positions of authority close to top persons in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Nigerians will recall that the PDP had earlier alerted on how the CBN under Mr. Godwin Emefiele as CBN Governor has been turned into the finance department of the APC where APC leaders fraudulently access public funds through nebulous subsidies, shady intervention programmes and discriminatory exchange policies which perpetuate illegal arbitrage system

The rejected APC has resorted to this underhand method to corruptly rake in billions of naira from public treasury without consideration for the welfare of Nigerians.

This APC’s nefarious action is informed by its realization that its leaders cannot make huge donations to the APC coffers as they will be violating the limits of contribution to political parties as stipulated by law and regulation.

The APC is a sinking ship with ill-fated and inchoate sailors holding on to straw including this shameless attempt to sweep our national treasury. It is regrettable that the APC has shamelessly and soullessly extended their corruption to our electoral process not minding the consequential effect on our democratic system.

In any case, such shenanigan and criminal pillaging of our treasury cannot prevent the imminent crushing defeat of the APC at the polls in 2023, Nigerians having realized the fraud and life discounting experiences that the APC represents.''the statement in part read

The party called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Accountant General of the Federation as well as the Auditor General of the Federation to immediately commence an investigation and monitor the movement of funds in Ministries, Department, and Agencies of government so as to protect ''our national treasury from the APC as we approach the 2023 general elections''.

Sources at the meeting said the issue of betrayal amongst the aspirant was dismissed as it was agreed that everyone who had an interest to run for any political office whatsoever was not encumbered in any way at all.

UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account.

In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation.

The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time.

Adele celebrated her birthday fresh-faced and fancy free in a new series of Instagram photos, saying hello to 34. “What a difference a year makes!” the hitmaker wrote in the post, which you can see here. “If time keeps healing and smoothing out all the creases in my life like it does as the years fly by, then I can’t wait to be 60! I’ve never been happier!”

Adele not only wore a makeup-free and unfussy hair look, she also rocked a chic black mini dress with exaggerated puff sleeves and a bejeweled bodice. “So many lessons, so many blessings to be grateful for,” she continued in the caption. “This is 34, and I love it here! Thank you for the birthday love as always x.”

Adele has definitely faced her fair share of trials and blessings over the past year. The “Hello” singer recently had to postpone her Las Vegas residency back in January, apologizing to fans for the unfortunate situation. “I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready,” she confirmed in a teary eyed video posted to her Instagram account at the time. She went on to cite “delays” pertaining to COVID-19.

The Grammy winner, however, returned at the end of April to announce that she could be heading back to Vegas in just a few short months. She shared that she’s reportedly in talks to reschedule her highly anticipated residency show for “late summer” at a new venue: the Zappos Theatre at Planet Hollywood Hotel, according to TMZ. The property is part of the same company as Caesars Entertainment, which owns her original venue The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The “Easy on Me” singer and her team are “in serious talks” with Planet Hollywood, and she would have “full creative control” over the show, per the outlet. Notably, Planet Hollywood is no stranger to major residencies — playing host to Britney Spears‘ ‘Piece Of Me’ me for years, as well as Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘All I Have‘ show. Gwen Stefani‘s ‘Just A Girl’ also called PH home. Adele will also take a larger cut of sales if she is indeed moving to the new venue, which has 7,000 seats vs. Caesars Palace’s 4,100.

The Las Vegas residency was announced after the release of her highly anticipated album 30, which included lead single “Easy On Me.” The project largely deals with her divorce from husband Simon Konecki, who she split from in 2019 after eight years together and three years of marriage. The pair are also parents to son Angelo, 9. She has since moved on romantically with Rich Paul.
