The lecturers insisted that government
implements the 2009 agreement 100 per
cent.
The meeting between striking university
lecturers’ and federal legislators was
deadlocked on Monday.
The meeting, held at the National
Assembly Complex, failed to resolve the
contending issues. The meeting was
initially delayed reportedly due to the
late arrival of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, Pius
Anyim.
The lecturers, members of the Academic
Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, were
said to have insisted on a 100 per cent
implementation of the 2009 agreement
with the federal government; while the
lawmakers and government officials
present requested partial
implementation.
ASUU has been on strike for almost two
weeks, paralyzing academic activities at all
Nigeria’s public universities.
