UCCDA to penalise owners of abandoned vehicles

Uyo Capital City Development Authority has
said owners of abandoned vehicles in Uyo
streets will be fined for the number of days
such vehicles are left on the streets.
The authority, which frowns at such
development, said it has given the culprits
seven days ultimatum to remove their
vehicles or face the full wrath of the
authority.
The chairman, UCCDA, Mr. Ignatius Edet, said
the authority would no longer tolerate a
situation where owners of abandoned
vehicles prefer to use Uyo streets as
dumping ground for unused vehicles.
He said, "We are giving owners of abandoned
vehicles on Uyo streets a seven-day
ultimatum, beginning from August 7 to
remove such abandoned vehicles.
"We have discovered that apart from many
accidents which are caused by these
abandoned vehicles, they add to traffic
congestion.
"Once the seven days ultimatum expires, we
will begin to fine owners of such abandoned
vehicles."
Edet urged members of the public to discard
makeshift containers, attachments, shanty
shops and all other forms of illegal
structures which dot the city.
He also warned members of the public
against using government right of way to
display their wares and and building on water
channels.
He called on developers to always call on the
office of UCCDAA for approval whenever they
intend to put up a structure.
