FEDERATION of International Football
Assocation (FIFA) may sanction Nigeria
following fans encroachment at the U.J
Esuene Stadium pitch after the referee
signalled the end of the 2014 World Cup
play-off game which ended 2-0 in favour
of Nigeria.
It was a total security collapse, as fans
who had taken shelter in the closed
stands during downpour, rushed to mob
their various Eagles stars as Nigeria
booked a ticket to the Mundial in Brazil
come 2014.
A helpless security team led by
Commissioner of Police Gideon Akinsola
and some members of the army, navy,
police and civil defence corp could not
but watch as they chased Calabar fans
with whips, canes and chairs.
Some fans injured themselves as they fell
due to the slippery tartan track while
tried to evade been caught by some of
the security agents.
The development which would not go
down well with the football international
body could see Nigeria been handed a
fine.
Recall same happened during the 2000
AFCON edition which Ghana-Nigeria co
hosted as Lagos fans ran into the National
Stadium pitch to celebrate after Julius
Aghahowa scored the eqauliser for the
Super Eagles in the semi-final game
against Senegal.
