Seven persons died after a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Ibadan-Ogbomoso Road on Sunday.
Also in Ogbomoso, a truck loaded with fuel somersaulted in the Taki area of the town, spilling its content while residents of the area scooped fuel before security men arrived at the scene.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Tayo, said apart from those who died in the accident, several others sustained injuries.
He said the accident occurred when the bus attempted to overtake a Sports Utility Vehicle along the bad narrow road, but failed to accomplish the task on time to avoid the truck which was coming from the opposite direction.
Tayo said, “The bus was coming from Lagos heading towards Ilorin, Kwara State. The driver made an attempt to overtake the SUV, but SUV driver increased the speed. The bus driver could not avoid the head-on collision which resulted in the death of six passengers immediately. Another one died during rescue.”
The eyewitnesses said while rescue effort was on, traffic was at a standstill for more than one hour.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Oyo State Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the accident, adding that he was expeting details from officers at the scene.
